Woodbridge Buttrum’s Mill

OS Explorer Map 212 coordinates 264 492, the blue star denotes ‘tourist feature’ which is the windmill location. Might be easier to look at a street map. The mill is at the junction of Burkitt Road and Grundisburgh Road, opposite Woodbridge School.

Buttrum’s mill is a handsome windmill close to the centre of Woodbridge and well worth a look. You can only get inside by booking ahead (details here) but you can have a look outside any time.

From Kesgrave to Buttrum’s is 5 miles. I got there via Sandy Lane, right onto Ipswich Rd/Station Rd then left into Cumberland Street which gets you away from the main road.

Then its left at Church Street crossroads, up the hill past Abbey school on your left and the town hall on your right. Follow the road around to the right in front of the Kings Head and turn left into Theatre Street/Burkitt Road. The windmill will come into view on your left.

Some Wiki info on the mill here.

I returned down the hill and along New Street and St John’s Street to the river front then pushed a bit and rode a bit along Sandlings to Kyson point, up Kyson Hill, along Broom Heath, left into Sandy lane and back to Kesgrave.

11 sunny autumn miles 🙂
